On Wednesday, August 26, initial reports indicated at least 157 dead and hundreds missing as flash floods struck the Himalayan border region, triggered by an ice-rock avalanche or glacier collapse. The death toll subsequently rose to 626, 676, 734, 903, and eventually to at least 919 across both countries, with the Nepali Foreign Ministry reporting that 590 foreign nationals from 39 countries remained unaccounted for. Nearly 4,800 people are still missing across Nepal and Tibet.
The confirmation of a second missing Israeli comes amid this broader tragedy. As The Zioneer has reported, the flood overwhelmed the Gyirong Port crossing, severing roads, communications and electricity. Rescue teams have saved thousands, but search efforts continue for hundreds still missing.
