Israel's Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, presented to the Security Council on Tuesday three Gaza figures whose deaths the international community condemned as journalist killings — revealing their actual identities as Hamas operatives and a UNRWA employee. Danon also showed how New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani repeated the false claim, calling a Hamas military-wing operative a journalist. Danon criticized the UN Secretary-General's report on Resolution 2334 for relying on Hamas propaganda.
Israel's UN Ambassador Danny Danon used a Security Council platform on Tuesday to expose what he called Hamas's exploitation of the international community's sympathy for Gaza journalists — presenting evidence that three figures whose deaths were condemned as slain reporters were in fact the opposite.
Danon displayed photographs of three Gaza figures — two described as "journalists" and one as an UNRWA employee — alongside their real affiliations: Hamas operatives and an UNRWA worker. He noted that the international community had condemned their deaths during the war, only for their true identities to emerge later without apology or retraction.
The ambassador also criticized New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, who repeated the claim that a Hamas military-wing operative was a journalist killed by Israel — a charge the Consul General of Israel in New York, Ofir Akunis, had also refuted in recent days.
Danon specifically attacked the UN Secretary-General's report on the implementation of Security Council Resolution 2334, arguing it continues to rely on Hamas allegations rather than facts, automatically condemning Israel while ignoring the destabilizing role of terrorist organizations in the region.
"Hamas spreads lies. The UN repeats them. The world condemns Israel," Danon said. "Then the truth emerges — and there is no apology, no correction, no retraction. It is time to stop echoing terrorist propaganda and to start pressuring Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran."
