Israeli airline Israir has received the required approvals from Dubai airport to operate a rescue flight for stranded Israelis, but has not yet opened it for sale pending final clearance from all involved parties, journalist Dean Fisher (N12) reported at 09:49 Jerusalem. The company is also preparing an additional rescue flight from Dubai for after the holiday.
The update comes hours after the Transportation Ministry announced at 08:30 that repatriation flights would be delayed due to ongoing security coordination. As The Zioneer reported at 08:31, the ministry stated it was working with authorities in Israel and abroad to enable flights as soon as possible. Yesterday, security officials approved the start of rescue operations from Dubai starting Friday, with flights initially limited to carry-on luggage and scheduled through Monday.
The repatriation effort follows the attempted hijacking of Flydubai flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv on Wednesday. Israeli authorities suspended all Flydubai operations to Israel for at least six days pending a security review, leaving thousands of Israelis stranded. Israeli carriers including Israir, El Al, and Arkia are coordinating with the government to operate rescue flights, with the Transportation Ministry instructing them to maintain fair pricing.
It remains unclear when the first rescue flights will depart, as final security clearances are still being completed. Passengers will be required to pay for tickets without government subsidy, according to earlier reports.
