Jerusalem police arrested 17 illegal residents on Friday morning after they allegedly set up a makeshift sleeping complex in a school building in the Beit Safafa neighborhood, police said. The suspects were found in rooms equipped with beds and showers, having taken over parts of the school after hours while summer camps were ongoing.
The arrest is part of a broader enforcement campaign against illegal residency in Jerusalem. Over the past month, police and Border Guard forces have conducted similar operations, including the arrest of 74 illegal residents in Beit Safafa on June 17, 11 illegal residents in Beit Shemesh on June 24, and 43 illegal residents at a construction site in Kiryat Ono on July 1, as The Zioneer has reported. The police continue to act on intelligence to prevent the presence of unauthorized individuals in public buildings and sensitive areas.
The 17 suspects were taken for questioning. No further details have been released.
