Lebanese President Joseph Aoun is en route to Washington for a scheduled meeting with President Donald Trump on July 21, according to a report circulating on open-source intelligence channels. The Lebanese presidency earlier Saturday confirmed that Aoun had departed for the United States, as The Zioneer reported. The upcoming White House meeting is expected to address the ceasefire framework in southern Lebanon and the timeline for Israel's withdrawal from territory it holds in Lebanon.
The trip comes after weeks of diplomatic engagement between the two governments. As The Zioneer has previously reported, Trump and Aoun spoke by phone in late June, followed by meetings between Aoun and U.S. Vice President JD Vance, envoy Jared Kushner, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The talks are separate from the parallel U.S.-Iran negotiations in Switzerland, Aoun has said.
The July 21 meeting would be the first visit by a Lebanese president to the White House in over a decade. The agenda also includes discussions on Hezbollah's disarmament and the implementation of the ceasefire agreement.
