Yisrael Beiteinu chairman Avigdor Liberman on Sunday called for Shin Bet Director David Zini to leave his post, describing him as an excellent officer but ill-suited to lead the security agency. Liberman said the latest failure strengthens his original opposition to Zini's appointment.
Yisrael Beiteinu chairman Avigdor Liberman publicly demanded Sunday that Shin Bet Director David Zini resign, saying the security chief is an excellent soldier and officer but not fit to lead the agency. The statement, posted to Liberman's X account, claims the 'failure' (michdal) confirms his longstanding objection to Zini's appointment.
The Zioneer has previously reported on friction between Zini and the political echelon, including disputes over internal leak investigations and wiretapping probes. Liberman, a veteran opposition figure and former defense minister, has been a vocal critic of the current government's security appointments and Zini's conduct. He did not specify which recent failure he was referencing.
The Shin Bet declined to comment. Zini, appointed in 2021, has faced growing political pressure amid investigations into leaks from security bodies and his agency's role in evaluating political party eligibility.
