The suspect arrested at Trump National Golf Club in California was found with a notebook containing 'alarming statements,' Fox News reports, as the arrest is now being described as a thwarted assassination attempt against President Donald Trump.
Earlier tonight (Wed 02:08 Jerusalem), The Zioneer reported that law enforcement had arrested 38-year-old Janin John Taylor at the golf club after he allegedly photographed security preparations ahead of the president's visit. Taylor was found carrying a handgun and ammunition. Subsequent searches of his residence and vehicle recovered an illegally modified AR-style rifle, body armor, high-capacity magazines, and ammunition, in addition to the notebook. Fox News reports that the notebook contained 'alarming statements' that are now under investigation.
The Zioneer has previously reported on security at Trump's golf clubs. On August 1, the president approved new strike plans during his stay at his New Jersey golf club, according to the Wall Street Journal. The broader security landscape has seen multiple foiled plots against senior US officials, including a multi-stage drone and sniper conspiracy targeting the White House UFC event in June, as The Zioneer reported on June 17.
The investigation remains ongoing. The suspect's motive has not been disclosed, and authorities have not indicated whether Taylor acted alone or as part of a wider network.
