Historian and tour guide Dor Ben-Ari led the establishment of a new monument in Prague's cemetery, commemorating the Jewish parachutists from the Yishuv who fought in WWII. The state dedication ceremony included the Czech Chief of Staff, the US Ambassador, and Israeli officials.
The monument, initiated four years ago by historian Dor Ben-Ari, was built in cooperation with the Israeli Embassy in Prague (led by former ambassadors Anna Azari and Amir Weissbrod) and the local cemetery administration, with support from the Defense Ministry's Commemoration Department. It stands in a symbolic location near the plots of other Allied soldiers who fought the Nazis, and close to the grave of Martin Davidovich, the first fallen IDF parachutist.
Ben-Ari, who also researched and drafted the texts on the monument, said the project strengthens Israel-Czech ties and provides a permanent pilgrimage site for the memory of the Yishuv's WWII parachutists, including Haviva Reik and Raphael Reiss, who were previously buried in the city. The ceremony included Czech Chief of Staff Gen. Karel Řehka, US Ambassador Bijan Sabet, and Brig. Gen. (res.) Avi Benayahu representing Kibbutz Lahavot Haviva.
