The change of command of the IDF's elite 98th Paratroopers and Commando Division (Fire Formation) took place on Thursday, with Brig. Gen. Manny Liberty assuming command from Brig. Gen. Guy Levy, according to Army Radio (N13). In his farewell speech, as reported on Sunday, outgoing commander Levy praised the division's reservists for their dedication. 'You set aside personal lives again and again — families, children, careers, studies — and reported without hesitation, out of deep commitment to the security of the state,' Levy said. Levy, who led the division in operations in Gaza and Lebanon over the past two years, is expected to compete for a Major General position. The ceremony was presided over by Central Command chief Maj. Gen. Avi Bluth, who told the incoming commander, 'There is no doubt that you are the right man for the mission.' Liberty previously served as head of the Operations Division in the IDF Intelligence Directorate.
