01 · THE DISPATCH

Police arrested a 14-and-a-half-year-old boy in Jerusalem on Thursday evening for riding an electric scooter in a manner they described as an extreme danger to himself and pedestrians. According to the police spokesperson, the youth rode without a helmet, crossed intersections on red lights, crossed a solid separation line, and nearly hit pedestrians crossing at a crosswalk. Officers flagged the ride as a severe hazard and detained him. The arrest follows a series of similar scooter-related incidents in recent weeks: The Zioneer has reported on several electric scooter and bike accidents and police chases, including a 16-year-old arrested after an ATV chase in the Bedouin diaspora earlier Thursday, and a 15-year-old moderately injured after being hit by a car in Kiryat Motzkin on Monday. The police have not yet disclosed whether charges will be filed.
