Israeli police updated Saturday evening that the IDF soldier arrested in connection with a shooting incident in the village of al-Mu'ayir in the Binyamin region of Judea and Samaria was questioned at the inter-organizational headquarters and released to his base for military detention in coordination with the Military Police. The Military Police is conducting a separate investigation into the conduct of the forces that operated at the scene.
The incident occurred Friday when the soldier, a 19-year-old regular service conscript on leave, arrived at the outskirts of al-Mu'ayir with several other Israelis. According to police, a confrontation developed during which the soldier allegedly fired his personal weapon, striking a 9-year-old Palestinian child. The soldier's weapon was seized. The soldier denies firing any weapon, and his attorney, Nati Rom, accused police of adopting a "blood libel" from the village's incitement channel. Documentation of the shooting was released by Army Radio (N13) earlier Saturday.
The Zioneer reported that the soldier was initially arrested by Judea and Samaria District police and later transferred to military custody. The incident is under investigation by both police and the Military Police.
The condition of the injured child has not been reported. The soldier's account, which denies any use of force, remains under review as the investigation continues.
