The Houthi military spokesman accused Saudi Arabia of launching airstrikes on Sanaa International Airport, ending de-escalation efforts, and warned that the attack will not go unanswered. The Yemeni Defense Ministry (anti-Houthi) also issued an evacuation warning for the airport, urging civilians to stay away, according to Yemeni sources.
Monday afternoon, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree accused Saudi Arabia of launching airstrikes on Sanaa International Airport and warned that the attack would not go unanswered, describing it as an end to the de-escalation phase. The threat follows reports of explosions at the airport beginning at 14:09 Jerusalem, when the first unconfirmed reports of a Saudi airstrike emerged. Within minutes, Houthi-affiliated media and a Saudi-linked channel confirmed the strikes, and the official Yemeni news agency Saba reported that the runways were targeted. A Houthi-aligned source added that the strikes came shortly after an Iranian passenger plane landed, breaking the Saudi-led air blockade.
At 14:13 Jerusalem, the anti-Houthi Yemeni defense minister warned Iran that patience was exhausted, and at 14:19 the Yemeni Defense Ministry (anti-Houthi) issued an evacuation warning for the airport. These moves were preceded by a Sunday night warning from the Houthi foreign ministry to Saudi Arabia, reported by The Zioneer at 23:56 Jerusalem, that any disruption of Sanaa Airport operations would have consequences and that escalation would undermine de-escalation efforts.
The Houthi spokesman's threat represents the latest rhetorical escalation. The Houthi foreign ministry had previously warned that escalation would undermine ceasefire efforts, and the Houthi military spokesman had earlier threatened to strike Saudi airports if the blockade continued (as The Zioneer reported on July 3). The situation remains volatile.
No independent confirmation of the airstrikes has been obtained, and no casualty figures have been reported. Saudi Arabia has not responded to the allegations. The nature and timing of any Houthi retaliation remain unknown.
