The Securityist Movement (Habithonistim) warned Wednesday that the discovery of a tunnel near the Az-Zeim checkpoint (Judea and Samaria) — which reportedly allowed the passage of weapons and people without inspection — is a wake-up call to a growing threat along the seam line and inside Israel. Movement chairman, retired Brig. Gen. Erez Wiener, called for a shift in approach toward Judea and Samaria, including dismantling the Palestinian Authority, arming rapid-response teams, and preparing operational plans, saying the question is not if the threat will be directed at Israel but when.
The Securityist Movement (Habithonistim), a right-of-center advocacy group of high-ranking former security officials, issued a statement Wednesday following the reported discovery of a tunnel near the Az-Zeim checkpoint east of Jerusalem, in the Judea and Samaria area. According to the group, the tunnel enabled the passage of weapons and individuals without inspection — a breach they describe as a direct parallel to the failures preceding the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on southern Israel.
Retired Brig. Gen. Erez Wiener, chairman of the movement, characterized the tunnel's exposure as a "wake-up call" to an intensifying threat from the seam line and Israel's interior. He linked the phenomenon to what he called rampant illegal arms smuggling across borders and the criminal infrastructure within Arab Israeli organized crime, noting that the Shin Bet has warned of approximately one million illegal weapons in circulation. "The question is not if this weaponry will be turned against us and to whom, but when," Wiener said.
He called for a comprehensive policy shift: dismantling what he described as the "inciting and armed" Palestinian Authority, establishing advanced security arrays along the seam line, training and arming civilian rapid-response teams, and preparing operational plans. The movement earlier declared the defense of Israel's interior as its central theme for the coming year. Wiener said the exposed tunnel must serve as Israel's alarm before a scenario resembling October 8 occurs.
As The Zioneer has reported in recent weeks, Wiener and the Securityist Movement have consistently warned of internal and eastern-front threats, including criticism of the emerging US-Iran MOU and calls for a preemptive offensive in Judea and Samaria. The tunnel discovery provides a concrete example of the threats the movement says are being ignored.
