01 · THE DISPATCH

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich met Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi in Jerusalem on Monday evening, in the latest high-level encounter during the president's first official visit to Israel. The meeting focused on economic cooperation, with Smotrich's office stating the two discussed removing regulatory barriers and building a framework to promote Israeli investment and business activity in Somaliland.

Following the meeting, Smotrich said he was impressed by Somaliland's growth potential, citing "brave leadership, democratic institutions, and a pro-Western orientation." He pledged that his ministry would work to remove obstacles and create fertile ground for joint initiatives to realize the trade and investment potential between the two countries.

The meeting follows Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's earlier meeting with Abdullahi on Monday afternoon, and President Isaac Herzog's meeting with him on Sunday. The Zioneer reported on those meetings as they occurred. Smotrich's session is the third top-level encounter during the visit, underscoring Israel's push to deepen ties with the breakaway Horn of Africa republic, which is not recognized by the international community but maintains informal relations with Israel. No additional meetings or concrete agreements were announced.
