According to friends, the soldier had repeatedly requested to shorten her service due to her condition and had been told not to be left with a weapon, but her pleas for help were ignored. The IDF has not yet responded to the allegations.
The incident was first reported on Sunday evening, when a female soldier was found with a gunshot wound to the head at Camp Glilot, in what initial reports described as a suspected suicide. The Zioneer reported that the Military Police Criminal Investigation Division (CID) opened an investigation. By Monday, friends of the soldier alleged that she had sought service reduction due to her condition and that the army was aware but failed to intervene. On Tuesday, the soldier was identified as St.-Sgt. Naama Desitelfeld, and additional allegations from friends emerged, including that there was an instruction not to leave her with a weapon.
The death is the latest in a series of incidents in which IDF soldiers have been found dead at military bases. As The Zioneer reported on July 3, a soldier was found without vital signs at a northern base, initially assessed as a possible suicide. On June 29, another soldier was found in central Israel, with the Military Police investigating.
The circumstances of Desitelfeld's death remain under investigation, and the IDF has not commented on the allegations raised by her friends.
