TL;DR

The British Maritime Trade Operations Center (UKMTO) reported a tanker was struck by a projectile of unknown origin in the Strait of Hormuz, causing damage to the vessel's bridge. No casualties have been reported and the tanker is continuing its transit. The report is preliminary and single-sourced.

01 · THE DISPATCH

The British Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) issued Warning No. 076-26 on Saturday, reporting that a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz was struck by a projectile of unknown origin, causing damage to the vessel's bridge. No casualties were reported, and the tanker is continuing its transit. The identity of the tanker and the source of the projectile remain unconfirmed.

This is the second UKMTO report about a tanker struck by a projectile in the strait on the same day. The first report, published at 12:46 Jerusalem, noted an attack by an unknown projectile southeast of Iran, with no casualties. Later, at 12:46 Jerusalem, Iranian channels claimed responsibility for that attack, stating Iranian forces struck the tanker. The current UKMTO alert adds bridge damage to the known details, but the relationship between the two reports (whether they refer to the same vessel or a second incident) has not been clarified.

The Zioneer has tracked a series of maritime incidents in and around the Strait of Hormuz since early June. On June 10, a cargo ship was reportedly struck by an Iranian drone in the strait, based on a diplomatic source cited by CNN. On June 19, warning shots were fired in the strait, with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warning all vessels to keep clear. On June 13, an oil tanker was hit by gunfire off Oman, and an oil products tanker was attacked off Yemen's Ash Shihr. The pattern of attacks has been characterized by single-source reports and evolving claims.

What remains unclear is whether the current UKMTO alert is an update to the earlier projectile attack or represents a separate incident. The Iranian claim of responsibility has not been independently verified, and the extent of the damage to the bridge and any operational impact on the tanker are not yet known.
