Sky News reports that British authorities have arrested two Iranian citizens on suspicion of planning a terror attack on Yom Kippur. The arrests come amid heightened concerns over Iran-linked plots against Jewish targets in the UK.
British police on Friday evening announced that two men were indicted on charges of preparing a terrorist attack against a synagogue in Manchester on Yom Kippur. The suspects, identified as Iranian citizens aged 36 and 34, were arrested on the eve of the holiday. Reports indicated they were in contact with a third party abroad, possibly in Iran. A UK report later added that the two had entered the United Kingdom on small boats in 2020 and 2023.
The Zioneer reported the indictment at 22:53 Jerusalem Friday, and at 23:07 reported the suspects' arrival method via small boats. The indictment charges them with preparatory acts for a terrorist attack targeting Jewish sites in northern England.
As The Zioneer reported in September 2026, British counterterrorism authorities foiled an Iran-linked plot to bomb RAF Fairford, a US strategic bomber base in Gloucestershire, describing a "strong Iranian fingerprint" in that operation. The two cases highlight ongoing concerns about Iranian-directed terrorism on British soil.
The extent of Iranian state involvement in the Yom Kippur plot remains under investigation. British authorities have not formally attributed the plot to Tehran.
