The update builds on earlier reports Sunday evening. As The Zioneer reported at 22:22 Jerusalem, three soldiers were initially confirmed killed: two in a missile attack on a U.S. base in Jordan on July 17, and one in northern Iraq on July 18. A fourth soldier was listed as missing. At 22:28, The Zioneer noted that unidentified remains had been found at the Jordan site and that identification was ongoing. The current CENTCOM statement confirms those remains are the missing soldier, bringing the Jordan toll to three and the total to four.
The Iraq incident occurred on July 18 during a controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian one-way attack drone, CENTCOM said. A second U.S. service member was wounded in that incident and is receiving treatment for minor injuries.
The attacks are part of a series of Iranian strikes on U.S. forces in the region, which have prompted sustained U.S. retaliatory operations. CENTCOM declined to release the identities of the fallen pending family notification.
