Yesterday, undercover officers from the Southern District Border Police, with Shin Bet guidance and detectives from the Segev Shalom station, arrested two suspects in the defacement of a memorial for fallen IDF soldier Sgt. Yehuda Peretz in the Negev community of Rethmim, according to police. The suspects were apprehended simultaneously in two locations in the Bedouin town of Bir Hadaj.
Undercover Border Police officers from the Southern District, operating with Shin Bet intelligence and detectives from the Segev Shalom station, arrested two suspects Monday in the defacement of a memorial for fallen IDF soldier Sgt. Yehuda Peretz in the Negev community of Rethmim. The suspects were taken into custody simultaneously in two separate locations in the Bedouin town of Bir Hadaj.
The memorial, dedicated to Sgt. Yehuda Peretz, a Golani soldier who fell in combat, was vandalized last month. The Zioneer reported at the time that the vandalism included damage to equipment, burning of wooden benches, and defacement of memorial signs and the Israeli flag. A police complaint was filed.
The suspects have not been named publicly. The investigation is ongoing, and the arrests represent a coordinated effort by the Border Police, Shin Bet, and local police.
