Earlier today at 14:34 Jerusalem, the Health Ministry announced the first death from West Nile fever this summer — a 70-year-old man who died from complications after being hospitalized in July. The ministry also confirmed a total of 10 diagnosed cases this year, as The Zioneer reported. The seasonal outbreak was first confirmed on July 16, when the first case was reported. Subsequent mosquito detections in southern Israel were reported on August 1.
As The Zioneer reported on June 24, two children from the Sharon region were diagnosed with the fever and released in good condition. The ministries have urged the public to report standing water and mosquito hazards to local authorities.
The specific locations of the 10 diagnosed cases have not been disclosed, and the identity of the deceased patient has not been released. The ministries continue to monitor the situation.
