Yeruham council head Nili Aharon confirmed Tuesday evening that police used force against her during a protest against the Jewish National Fund (JNF-KKL), and that she was evacuated by ambulance. The claim was reported by journalist Itai Gal-Or (Channel 12), adding a new detail to the confrontation first documented earlier tonight.
The Zioneer reported at 17:44 Jerusalem that video footage showed Aharon in a physical struggle with police, who attempted to handcuff her. Minutes earlier, at 17:40 Jerusalem, The Zioneer reported that the confrontation stemmed from Aharon bringing a megaphone to a meeting at the neighboring Omer council, where she confronted Omer council head Erez Badesh and JNF-KKL chairman Eyal Ostrovsky. The Omer council called police, but after discussions, Badesh requested the complaint be dropped.
The incident adds to a series of allegations of police violence during protests in recent weeks. As The Zioneer reported on June 17, Shas MK Yanon Azoulay denounced police violence on the Knesset floor, and on the same day, protesters claimed police used stun grenades and batons during a demonstration.
Aharon's claim has not been independently verified, and police have not yet issued a response to the latest allegation.
