Ali al-Ammoudi
Ali al-Ammoudi is a senior Hamas political bureau member and the organization's de facto leader in the Gaza Strip following the elimination of Yahya Sinwar. He is identified by Israeli security services as a central figure in Hamas's strategic deception operations.
Ali al-Ammoudi has emerged as a critical figure within the Hamas hierarchy, currently serving as the deputy head of the organization's political bureau. Following the death or departure of previous top-tier leaders, most notably Yahya Sinwar, al-Ammoudi is viewed by the Israeli security establishment as the de facto administrator of the Gaza Strip, managing the group's daily affairs and remaining military-political coordination. Al-Ammoudi is particularly noted for his role as the 'architect of deception.' Intelligence reports indicate he was the primary driver behind a sophisticated strategic campaign designed to mislead Israel and the international community. This plan involved projecting a false willingness by Hamas to disarm and transfer civilian governance to a 'technocratic committee' under international supervision, a move intended to lull Israel into a false sense of security while the group maintained its terror infrastructure. On Saturday, October 3, 2026 (Simchat Torah), the IDF conducted a precision airstrike in Gaza City's Rimal neighborhood targeting al-Ammoudi. The strike hit the ground floor of an apartment building at approximately 01:30 AM. While Palestinian sources reported five casualties, none were immediately confirmed to be al-Ammoudi, and his status remains a subject of high-priority intelligence monitoring. His survival or elimination carries significant weight for the future of Hamas's command structure in Gaza.
