The IRGC Aerospace Force (IRGCASF) is a distinct entity from the regular Iranian Air Force, functioning as the primary custodian of the Islamic Republic's ballistic missile and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) programs. Unlike conventional air forces focused on manned fighter aviation, the IRGCASF prioritizes asymmetric and strategic capabilities designed to project power across the Middle East and bypass traditional air defenses. It operates a vast network of underground silos, mobile launchers, and production facilities, particularly concentrated in Western Iran. In June 2026, the IRGCASF became the central actor in a direct kinetic exchange with Israel. Following reported Israeli strikes on IRGC air bases and radar sites, the force launched Operation 'Nasr,' involving ballistic missile barrages toward northern Israel and strategic airbases such as Nevatim and Tel Nof. This escalation marked a significant shift from proxy-based attrition to direct state-on-state conflict. The force's commander has publicly framed these actions as a fulfillment of the regime's 'True Promise' doctrine, claiming that the 'promise has been kept' regarding retaliation. Beyond its missile and drone fleets, the IRGCASF also manages Iran's military space program, which provides the technical foundation for its long-range delivery systems. The force's ability to strike deep within Israeli territory, including impacts reported in Samaria and northern Israel, underscores its role as the regime's primary tool for regional deterrence and offensive projection.
