Reuven Tam

Reuven Tam came to public attention in July 2026 following a remarkable convergence of events involving a kidney transplant. Tam, who required a transplant for medical reasons, was matched with donor Yonatan Rom. Shortly before the procedure, it was discovered that the two families shared a profound historical connection rooted in a moment of national tragedy and heroism.

Reuven is the brother of Eyal Tam, who in 2002 served as the emergency response commander (Ratzash) at the Atzmona pre-military academy (Mechina) in Gush Katif. During the Hamas terror attack on the academy on March 7, 2002, Eyal Tam was the officer who neutralized the terrorist, preventing further casualties. Among those Eyal saved that night was Yonatan Rom, then a student at the academy.

Twenty-four years after that event, Rom decided to donate a kidney altruistically. Upon learning the identity of the recipient, Rom realized he was donating his organ to the brother of the man who had saved his life decades earlier.
