IDF and Shin Bet confirm elimination of Oct. 7 Islamic Jihad infiltrator Abu Salem

The IDF and Shin Bet confirmed on Monday the elimination of Zaher Brahim Khalil Abu Salem, a military operative within the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terror organization. According to military intelligence, Abu Salem was among the terrorists who breached the border into Israel during the October 7, 2023, attacks. He is specifically identified as having taken part in the abduction of Israeli civilians from their homes and their subsequent captivity in the Gaza Strip. The strike, which took place on Sunday in northern Gaza, follows a consistent IDF strategy of targeting specific individuals involved in the atrocities of October 7. Beyond his role in the initial massacre and kidnapping, the IDF reports that Abu Salem remained active throughout the war. In recent days, he reportedly attempted to advance numerous terror attacks against Israeli civilians and IDF troops operating within the Gaza Strip. The military characterized him as an immediate threat to forces on the ground.
