The IDF and Israel Security Agency (ISA) eliminated Zaher Brahim Khalil Abu Salem, a Palestinian Islamic Jihad operative who infiltrated Israeli territory during the October 7, 2023, massacre and took part in abducting Israeli civilians. The precision aerial strike was conducted yesterday in the northern Gaza Strip. The military says Abu Salem also attempted to advance attacks against troops and civilians during the war.
The IDF and ISA announced Monday morning the elimination of Zaher Brahim Khalil Abu Salem, a Palestinian Islamic Jihad military operative who infiltrated Israeli territory during the October 7, 2023, massacre and participated in the abduction of Israeli civilians from their homes.
Abu Salem was killed in a precision aerial strike yesterday (Sunday) in the northern Gaza Strip. According to the military, prior to the strike steps were taken to mitigate civilian harm, including the use of precise munitions and aerial surveillance. The IDF said Abu Salem also attempted to advance numerous attacks against Israeli forces and civilians throughout the war and in recent days, and posed a threat to troops operating in Gaza.
The elimination adds to an ongoing campaign by the IDF and ISA against operatives who carried out the October 7 infiltration and massacre. As The Zioneer has reported in recent weeks, the military has targeted multiple such figures, including Hamas Nukhba commander Sakr Abu Karim (eliminated June 7) and Hamas operative Akram Abu Mazi (killed June 25). Unlike those operations, yesterday's strike targeted a member of Palestinian Islamic Jihad rather than Hamas.
IDF troops under the Southern Command remain deployed in the Gaza Strip in accordance with the existing agreement and will continue operations to remove threats, the military stated.
