The Lead
The IDF and Shin Bet confirmed on Friday the elimination of Muhammad Naim Jundiya, a senior Hamas operative who served as the head of military security for the Shujaiya Battalion. Jundiya, who was killed in a strike in the northern Gaza Strip on Wednesday, was directly involved in the October 7 massacre and was responsible for holding three Israeli hostages in an underground tunnel during the war.
The elimination of Muhammad Naim Jundiya marks a significant closure for the families of several Israeli hostages. According to material reviewed by The Zioneer, Jundiya served as a Nukhba squad leader during the October 7 invasion of Kibbutz Nahal Oz. During the attack, he participated in the abduction of Capt. Daniel Perez, whose body was taken into Gaza.
Responsibility for Hostages
Beyond his role in the initial massacre, the military identified Jundiya as the operative responsible for holding Yotam Haim, Samer al-Talalka, and Alon Shamriz in a tunnel within the Shujaiya neighborhood. The three hostages were later tragically killed in a friendly-fire incident involving IDF troops in December 2023. Jundiya's role in their captivity underscores his position within Hamas's apparatus for managing high-value Israeli assets.
Psychological Warfare and Recent Activity
Intelligence reveals that Jundiya was also one of the masked Hamas operatives frequently seen in the propaganda videos documenting hostage-release ceremonies during the November 2023 pause in fighting. In his capacity as head of military security for the Shujaiya Battalion, he continued to plan and attempt terror attacks against IDF forces operating in the Gaza Strip until his elimination. The strike, carried out two days ago, was a joint operation between the IDF and the Shin Bet, continuing the military's policy of targeting all individuals involved in the abduction and detention of Israelis.
