IDF Soldier Who Escaped From Abduction in Be'er Sheva Recovered, Suspect Arrested

An IDF soldier is safe after a harrowing abduction that began in Be'er Sheva and ended in the Hebron area of Judea and Samaria. According to details released by Israeli police and reported by Ynet, the soldier was abducted in broad daylight, forced into a vehicle, blindfolded, and bound. During the ordeal, he was also robbed and sustained bruises before managing to free himself from his restraints and escape. He was eventually returned to Israel via Palestinian police and extracted by officers from the Hebron station.

Suspect Identified

Authorities have arrested 49-year-old Walid Farouq in connection with the incident. Farouq is a resident of the Palestinian Authority and is identified as an employee of the Palestinian Preventive Security—an organization often referred to as the Palestinian Shin Bet. The Be'er Sheva Magistrate's Court has extended Farouq's remand by four days as the investigation continues. While the circumstances of the abduction are severe, police have currently characterized the motive as criminal rather than nationalistic.
