An IDF reserve soldier was severely wounded on Thursday during a close-quarters encounter with a terrorist in Bint Jbeil, southern Lebanon, the military confirmed Friday morning. The soldier was evacuated to a hospital for treatment, and his family has been notified.
The IDF Spokesperson officially confirmed on Friday morning that a reserve soldier from the 'Yiftah' Brigade (679) sustained severe injuries during operational activity in the Bint Jbeil area of southern Lebanon. The incident occurred around 18:00 on Thursday when the force entered a building and encountered a terrorist who opened fire at them. In addition to the severely wounded soldier, two other troops sustained very light injuries that did not require hospital evacuation.
Following the initial encounter, Israeli forces responded with tank fire against the building, and the IAF, directed by the 91st Division's fire brigade, struck additional targets in the vicinity. IDF units have since launched searches in the area to locate and eliminate the terrorist involved, with efforts reportedly still ongoing as of Friday morning.
This clash in Bint Jbeil—a historically significant stronghold in southern Lebanon—highlights the persistent friction and high-intensity nature of current operations in the sector. The integration of reserve units like the 679th Brigade into frontline combat remains a critical component of the IDF's strategy to dismantle infrastructure in southern Lebanon, though it continues to carry significant risks for personnel. The Zioneer Intelligence Desk will continue to monitor updates regarding the soldier's condition and the outcome of the ongoing search operations.
