U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) says it completed a new round of precision strikes across Iran, hitting over 80 locations and more than 60 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) small boats. The strikes targeted Iranian air defense systems, command-and-control networks, coastal radar sites, and anti-ship missile capabilities in response to Iran's recent attacks on three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM says it remains postured to hold Iran accountable.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced early Wednesday morning that it had completed a new round of precision strikes across Iran, hitting over 80 targets and more than 60 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) small boats. The strikes, which CENTCOM said targeted air defense systems, command-and-control networks, coastal radar sites, and anti-ship missile capabilities, follow a series of escalatory exchanges in the Strait of Hormuz that began Tuesday.
The Zioneer has been tracking the crisis since the initial reports. At 17:17 Jerusalem on Tuesday, the UKMTO reported a vessel attack with minor damage, followed by confirmation of a third ship attacked. By 17:17, a U.S. official confirmed to CNN that Iran had attacked three commercial vessels in Omani waters, calling it a "blatant violation" and saying a range of responses was under consideration. Further details emerged that Iran had launched five missiles and drones at the ships. At 18:47 Jerusalem, CENTCOM announced it had begun a series of powerful retaliatory strikes. Additional waves were reported at 00:32 and 02:11 Jerusalem Wednesday, with the U.S. military confirming ongoing operations. Now, at 04:49 Jerusalem, CENTCOM has provided specific numbers of targets destroyed in the completed round.
The U.S. has been conducting strikes against Iranian military assets since June, as The Zioneer reported: on June 11, CENTCOM completed additional precision strikes across Iran targeting military surveillance and air defense systems; on June 26, US strikes hit southern Iran after an IRGC drone attack on a commercial vessel; and on June 28, CENTCOM launched a new wave of strikes following a tanker attack. The Pentagon has consistently described the operations as self-defense against continued Iranian aggression targeting commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
No Iranian response or damage assessment has been reported so far. It remains unclear whether Tehran will retaliate or if the U.S. considers this round of strikes concluded. The Zioneer will continue to monitor developments.
