Following the first-reading passage of the bill for a political commission of inquiry into the October 7 massacre, Yesh Atid chairman Gadi Eisenkot said a state commission of inquiry will be established and accused Prime Minister Netanyahu of fearing the truth. 'Netanyahu, you are afraid and rightly so,' Eisenkot said, according to N12.
Yesh Atid chairman and former IDF chief Gadi Eisenkot responded Monday evening to the first-reading passage of the Knesset bill establishing a political commission of inquiry into the October 7, 2023 massacre, calling it a cover-up and asserting that a state commission of inquiry will be established.
'Netanyahu, you are afraid — and rightly so,' Eisenkot said in a statement reported by N12's Daphna Liel. 'Only someone who knows the truth and is afraid of it establishes a political commission of inquiry, for cover-up and engineering public consciousness backwards. Reveal the full protocols and the truth to the public.'
The bill, which passed its first reading earlier Monday, would establish a six-member commission appointed by the Knesset speaker and the opposition leader. The opposition has announced it will refuse to name its three members, effectively giving Prime Minister Netanyahu control of the commission, which can operate with just three members present.
Eisenkot has repeatedly called for a state commission of inquiry, which would have broader investigative powers and independence from political control. The debate over the form of an inquiry into the October 7 attack and its preceding failures has been a central political flashpoint in recent weeks, with the coalition pushing for a political commission and the opposition demanding a state commission.
