The FBI confirmed Thursday evening that it had foiled an ISIS-inspired plot to bomb the New York State Capitol, arresting an Albany woman accused of planning to detonate an explosive device hidden in a food delivery bag while state lawmakers were inside the building.
Federal prosecutors allege the suspect pledged allegiance to the Islamic State, purchased materials for the bomb, and repeatedly scouted the Capitol building. She also discussed fleeing to Syria and potentially targeting Times Square or the White House, according to the FBI.
As The Zioneer reported earlier Thursday (23:03 Jerusalem), an FBI affidavit had revealed details of the plot, including the suspect's alleged pledge of allegiance and the plan to use a delivery bag. Tonight's announcement confirms the suspect is in custody.
Investigators said the device had not yet been assembled, and no injuries have been reported. The suspect is expected to appear in federal court in Albany.
