TL;DR

Iranian media report new explosions near the Bushehr nuclear power plant, while simultaneously publishing images of an attack on speedboats in the Asaluyeh area of Bushehr province. The cause and any damage or casualties are not yet confirmed. The reports follow a series of blasts in southern Iran over the past 24 hours.

01 · THE DISPATCH

Iranian state-linked outlets released images on Thursday of what they described as an attack on IRGC speedboats at the Asaluyeh pier in Bushehr province, as new explosions were reported near the Bushehr nuclear power plant. The images appear to be the first visual acknowledgment by Tehran of the strikes that have targeted southern Iran since Wednesday evening.

The developments follow a rapid sequence of reports on Wednesday evening, all published at 22:42 Jerusalem. Initial unverified claims of a US strike gave way to confirmation by the Mehr news agency, followed by an Iranian official telling state media that the US bombed the perimeter of the Bushehr plant. The deputy governor of Bushehr province later confirmed that US strikes hit several targets, including the area around the nuclear plant, and described it as a violation of the ceasefire. The US military confirmed the use of Tomahawk cruise missiles against Bushehr. Later, contradictory reports emerged, with state media initially denying damage then reporting a projectile had struck the perimeter.

Earlier today, at 14:39 Jerusalem, smoke was seen rising from the Bushehr area after a reported strike targeting IRGC speedboats at the Asaluyeh pier — the same location shown in the images released now. The image release appears to be an official acknowledgment of that attack.

The current strikes come after satellite imagery published by the BBC on July 5 and cited by The Zioneer confirmed extensive damage to Iranian nuclear and military sites in Bushehr and Isfahan from the previous round of fighting. The extent of damage from the latest explosions, any casualties, and the independent verification of the released images remain unconfirmed.
