Sapir Lipkin (N12) reports, citing Palestinian sources, that the Hamas military media officer for Khan Younis killed in an Israeli airstrike on a vehicle in northwest Khan Younis is the grandson of Ahmed Nimr Hamdan, a founding member of Hamas, and the son-in-law of Rafa'a Salama, the former Khan Younis brigade commander who was killed alongside Mohammed Deif in July 2024.
Tonight, The Zioneer’s coverage of the Khan Younis strike has been updated with a new detail: the Hamas military media commander killed in the airstrike is the son-in-law of Rafa'a Salama, the former Khan Younis brigade commander eliminated alongside Mohammed Deif in July 2024. The identification was reported by N12’s Sapir Lipkin, citing Palestinian sources, and follows earlier reports that the operative was the grandson of Ahmed Nimr Hamdan, a founding member of Hamas.
The Zioneer began tracking the story at 11:54 Jerusalem, when a single unverified Gaza source reported that an Israeli drone strike on a jeep in northwest Khan Younis had killed two people and wounded several. Within minutes, multiple Gaza sources identified one of the killed as Anas Mahmoud Ahmed Nimr Hamdan, commander of the military media wing of the Khan Younis brigade. Subsequent reports, including those from Israeli media, confirmed the operative’s familial ties: grandson of a Hamas founder and son-in-law of the former brigade commander. However, the later N12 report cited by The Zioneer did not include the victim’s name, consistent with the draft’s note that the name has not been released.
The strike is part of broader IDF operations in Gaza targeting Hamas command and media infrastructure. The Zioneer has previously reported on the elimination of Rafa'a Salama in July 2024, as well as other targeted strikes in Khan Younis, including the killing of a battalion commander in June 2025.
It remains unclear whether a second fatality initially reported in the strike has been confirmed. The identification of the operative as the son-in-law of Salama has not been independently verified by Israeli sources.
