At 15:23 Jerusalem, heavy smoke was observed at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, following a direct Houthi missile strike reported earlier in the day. This marks the latest development in a series of attacks on the Saudi capital by the Iran-backed terror group.
The sequence of attacks began at 07:50 Jerusalem, when explosions were reported at the airport and Saudi authorities reportedly banned the publication of footage from the impact sites. By 13:41 Jerusalem, multiple reports emerged confirming a drone strike that hit the facility, resulting in the suspension of flight operations and damage to runways L15 and R15 as well as fuel tanks belonging to Safari company. Houthi missiles were confirmed to have scored a direct hit on the airport, and Israeli journalist Asaf Rozentsweig reported heavy smoke rising from the site, citing footage broadcast by N12.
The Houthis, who receive advanced weaponry from Iran, have significantly expanded their regional offensive. As The Zioneer reported on Aug 18, the group attacked the United Arab Emirates, triggering emergency alerts in Dubai. The group has also warned airlines against flying over Saudi airspace, as reported on Jul 14. The current attack represents an escalation in the Iranian proxy’s campaign against the Saudi monarchy.
Casualty figures are not yet available. Saudi authorities have not issued official confirmation regarding casualties or flight disruptions, and the full extent of damage remains unclear.
