An explosive device planted by Hezbollah killed a soldier and wounded seven others in southern Lebanon on Thursday morning, the IDF stated. The fatality was Staff Sgt. (res.) Alexander Filin, 29, of the 36th Division headquarters — the same soldier the IDF named earlier Thursday as killed in battle there. The incident marks the second lethal Hezbollah IED attack against IDF troops in the area within hours.
The IDF confirmed that an improvised explosive device (IED) attributed to Hezbollah killed Staff Sergeant (res.) Alexander Filin, 29, and wounded seven other troops on Thursday morning in southern Lebanon. Filin was a combat soldier assigned to the 36th Division command post. He had been named by the military earlier in the day after his death was approved for publication.
This is the second lethal IED attack against IDF forces in southern Lebanon in the same time frame. A previous incident, which the IDF detailed at 06:54 Jerusalem, also involved an explosive device near al-Taybeh that killed Filin and wounded seven — three moderately and four lightly. The wounded in the first incident included the deputy commander of the 36th Division (a colonel) and a reserve battalion commander. The new announcement appears to confirm the same casualties, clarifying that Filin was the fatality.
Hezbollah has not issued an official statement claiming responsibility for either attack. The IDF continues to operate in southern Lebanon to dismantle Hezbollah infrastructure and prevent the group from re-establishing positions near the border. As The Zioneer has reported over the past two weeks, IDF operations have struck hundreds of Hezbollah sites and eliminated multiple operatives, though ground encounters have exacted a steady toll on Israeli forces.
