Staff Sergeant (res.) Alexander Filin was killed and seven troops wounded — three moderately, four lightly — by an explosive device near al-Taybeh in southern Lebanon, according to the IDF. The wounded include the deputy commander of the 36th Division (colonel) and a reserve battalion commander. Hours earlier, five soldiers were wounded, one seriously, by two explosive drones. Artillery struck terrorist infrastructure in response to the earlier incident.
The IDF reported Thursday morning a double-incident in southern Lebanon that left one soldier dead and eight wounded. In the second and deadlier incident, Staff Sergeant (res.) Alexander Filin, 29, from Haifa, was killed and seven soldiers were wounded when an explosive device detonated near al-Taybeh. The wounded include the deputy commander of the 36th Division (colonel) and a reserve battalion commander (lieutenant colonel), both in moderate condition, plus four others lightly wounded.
Earlier, five soldiers were wounded, one seriously, by two explosive drones. IDF artillery struck Hezbollah infrastructure in response to that attack, the military said.
As The Zioneer reported at 06:05 and 06:13 on Thursday, Filin fell during a foot patrol and was identified as a fighter with the 36th Division headquarters. A preliminary IDF probe attributed Wednesday's 17:00 explosion on the Litani River to a Hezbollah device; shelling followed. The nine wounded from both incidents have been evacuated for treatment. No confirmation yet on whether the drone and explosive device were part of a coordinated Hezbollah operation.
