An Israeli Air Force "Yanshuf" helicopter carrying President Isaac Herzog executed an emergency landing at Palmachim Airbase on Thursday afternoon after striking a bird in flight. The helicopter had just transported the president from the memorial ceremony for Operation Protective Edge at Mount Herzl to a condolence visit in central Israel. No injuries were reported, according to Itai Blumenthal.
An Israeli Air Force "Yanshuf" (Black Hawk variant) helicopter carrying President Isaac Herzog was forced to make an emergency landing at Palmachim Airbase on Thursday afternoon after a bird strike in flight.
The helicopter had just completed a leg from Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, where the president attended the memorial ceremony for the fallen soldiers of Operation Protective Edge (2014), to a condolence visit in central Israel. After the bird strike, the pilot aborted the flight, landed safely at Palmachim, and emergency services were pre-positioned. No injuries were reported.
Itai Blumenthal reported the incident. It is unrelated to the previous emergency landing of an aerial refueling aircraft at Ben Gurion Airport on Tuesday, which the Zioneer reported separately.
