A helicopter carrying Israeli President Isaac Herzog executed a precautionary emergency landing at the IAF's Palmachim Airbase on Thursday evening after striking a bird during flight, according to the President's office. The flight crew reported that the bird strike was not felt while airborne. Following the precautionary landing, which occurred around 23:00 Jerusalem, Herzog and his delegation continued to their scheduled destination. No injuries were reported.
As The Zioneer reported at 19:48, the same helicopter — an IAF "Yanshuf" — had earlier that afternoon made an emergency landing at Palmachim after a bird strike during a flight from Mount Herzl. Thursday's landing is therefore the second such incident involving the same aircraft within hours. The President's office clarified that the pilot acted out of precaution in both cases. The helicopter remained at Palmachim for inspection; Herzog completed his itinerary via alternative transport.
