The Israel Defense Forces confirmed Sunday that last Wednesday it struck and killed Hussein Qadra and Mohammed Farra, operatives in Hamas and Islamic Jihad's financial-transfer infrastructure in the southern Gaza Strip. According to the military, Qadra headed a network that moved over half a billion Israeli shekels (NIS) — not dollars — via couriers and money exchangers in Turkey and Gaza to fund Hamas's military wing, paying salaries and financing attacks in violation of the ceasefire agreement.
The IDF announced Sunday that a precise strike last Wednesday in the southern Gaza Strip killed Hussein Qadra and Mohammed Farra, operatives in the Hamas-run financial network that channels funds into Gaza. Qadra headed the network and, together with Farra and others acting under Hamas leadership, facilitated the transfer of over half a billion NIS (shekels) to Hamas's military wing. The funds were moved through a network of dozens of couriers and money exchangers operating in Turkey and the Gaza Strip, the military said.
The IDF stated that the money was used to pay salaries to Hamas operatives and finance attacks against Israeli troops and civilians, in violation of the ceasefire agreement. The military said steps were taken before the strike to mitigate harm to civilians, including precision munitions and aerial surveillance.
As The Zioneer reported Sunday morning, the IDF confirmed the strike hours after its execution. The elimination follows a pattern of IDF operations against Hamas's financial infrastructure in Gaza; earlier this month, the military killed Khader Jamasi, head of a separate Hamas funds transfer network, in the northern Gaza Strip.
