IDF: Zar'it sirens were a false identification

TL;DR

The IDF said that sirens warning of a hostile aircraft intrusion in the area of Zar'it moments earlier were a false identification. No threat was confirmed and the incident is over.

01 · THE DISPATCH

The IDF confirmed at around 13:00 Jerusalem that the sirens in Zar'it earlier this afternoon were a false identification of a hostile aircraft intrusion. The military said no threat was confirmed and declared the incident over. This follows the initial alert at 12:53 Jerusalem, also reported by The Zioneer, which warned of an unmanned aircraft intrusion along the confrontation line.

The false identification in Zar'it is the latest in a sequence of similar events in northern communities over the past week. As The Zioneer reported on Sunday June 14, false identifications were declared in Hanita and Admit at 15:38 Jerusalem, in Arab al-Aramsha at 18:28 Jerusalem, and earlier that day at 03:37 Jerusalem in Eilat. On Friday June 12, a false alarm triggered sirens in Metula at 15:32 Jerusalem, and on Monday June 8, sirens in Metula and Misgav Am were also determined to be false at 18:43 Jerusalem. On Friday June 12 at 11:38 Jerusalem, the IDF said sirens were caused by Israeli forces' activity in the area.

False identification alarms — attributed by the IDF to birds, weather patterns, or Israeli military activity — have become a recurring issue along the Lebanon border and in the Eilat area, as The Zioneer has reported throughout the past week. The military has not indicated any change in operational posture following today's alert, and no interceptors were launched, according to an N12 report cited by the IDF.
