01 · THE DISPATCH

Representatives of Iran and the United States are meeting in Switzerland at 14:20 Jerusalem time, joined by Qatari and Pakistani mediators, according to the report by Amit Segal (N12). Qatar's involvement marks the latest development in a thread we have been tracking all day: at 05:57 Jerusalem we reported that Iranian media said a trilateral US-Iran-Qatar meeting was underway on a Lebanon ceasefire, and by the same time we noted the Swiss Foreign Ministry had welcomed the dialogue. The addition of Pakistan as a mediator alongside Qatar, first flagged in our 05:57 dispatch when we reported that the initial session would be mediated by both countries, is now confirmed in this opening format.

Earlier today (Sunday), we reported at 05:57 Jerusalem that official delegations from the US and Iran had begun talks, with an Israeli official then claiming Washington was pressing Israel to withdraw from southern Lebanon — a claim a senior Israeli political source rebutted by saying Prime Minister Netanyahu had reiterated that Israeli forces would remain in the security zone as long as needed. At 10:43 Jerusalem we cited Washington's first stated demand: IAEA inspector access to Iranian nuclear sites. At 11:52 Jerusalem we reported that Iranian negotiators met their Swiss counterparts ahead of the US talks. At 12:31 Jerusalem we noted Vice President JD Vance had joined all delegations and that negotiations would begin within two hours.

The talks take place against the backdrop of the wider diplomatic push we have covered since Thursday: as The Zioneer reported on Thursday, Jun 18, Switzerland's Foreign Ministry announced delegations from Iran, the US, Qatar, and Pakistan were scheduled to meet at the Bürgenstock resort for preliminary talks. Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani arrived in Switzerland on Friday, and envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff were already there ahead of an expected signing of the US-Iran agreement, which Prime Minister Netanyahu warned could be finalized this Sunday.

What remains open: the specific agenda item for the Pakistan-mediated discussions has not been independently confirmed by multiple sources; the nuclear file and the Lebanon situation are understood to be on the table, but no official readout of the opening session has yet emerged.
