The report confirms the expansion first announced by National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir on Sunday, which was initially reported by ynet and The Jerusalem Post.
The decision marks the latest step in the post-October 7 civilian defense reform, which has seen the number of gun owners double since before the war. On Sunday, Ben Gvir first approved eligibility for five neighborhoods—Ramot, Kalaniyot, Neve Noy, Ne'ot Lon, and Sigaliyot—before extending the designation to hundreds of streets across the city. The Jerusalem Post noted that 126 communities have been added to the program in 2026 alone.
The broader reform, as The Zioneer has reported, has expanded to dozens of communities nationwide, including Hadera, Rosh HaAyin, Yavne, and communities in the Mevo'ot HaHermon region. Over 280,000 Israelis have received gun licenses under the expanded criteria.
Every applicant must still undergo a full licensing process, including background checks and training requirements. The full list of eligible streets in Beersheba has not been published.
