Defense Minister Israel Katz announced Monday evening that 4,000 of the approximately 6,000 terrorists who invaded Israel on October 7, 2023, have been killed or captured — two-thirds of the total. Katz vowed to track down the remaining 2,000, calling it Israel's duty to the slain. Katz also disclosed the role of the Shin Bet's Nili unit in leading the manhunt, according to a report by Jewish Breaking News.
Defense Minister Israel Katz announced Monday evening that 4,000 of the approximately 6,000 terrorists who invaded Israel on October 7, 2023, have been killed or captured — two-thirds of the total. Katz vowed to eliminate the remaining 2,000, calling it Israel's duty to the victims. He also disclosed that the Shin Bet's Nili unit is leading the manhunt.
The figures were first presented to the security cabinet earlier on Monday by Military Intelligence chief Maj. Gen. Shlomi Binder, as The Zioneer reported at 10:40. Binder told ministers that 4,000 had been killed, with 2,000 still being hunted. Katz's public statement later in the day confirmed the numbers and added that captured terrorists are included in the count. By the evening, Katz and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had issued a directive ordering the elimination of every participant "from the senior ranks to the junior ranks."
The manhunt, led by the Shin Bet's Nili unit, continues. The Zioneer reported in June that over 2,500 Oct. 7 participants had been eliminated at that point; the new figure of 4,000 reflects more than a year of additional operations. As The Zioneer noted earlier Monday, at the current elimination rate, completing the hunt for the remaining 2,000 could take over a decade.
It remains unclear how many of the 4,000 were killed versus captured, and whether the pace of eliminations will accelerate. The operational status of the remaining 2,000 terrorists — many believed to be in Gaza, some possibly abroad — also remains unknown.
