MKs Simcha Rothman and Yulia Malinovsky toured the Atarot industrial zone this morning alongside IDF, Israel Prison Service, and Central Command representatives, as construction begins on the courthouse complex for trying October 7 Nukhba terrorists. The enabling legislation—passed last month with 93 votes—allows capital punishment, and the first indictments are expected soon, according to the lawmakers.
MKs Simcha Rothman (Religious Zionism) and Yulia Malinovsky (Yisrael Beiteinu), the initiators of the law to prosecute October 7 terrorists, toured the construction site for the special courthouse in the Atarot industrial zone, adjacent to Kalandia, this morning. Representatives from the IDF Planning Directorate, the Israel Prison Service, and the Central Command joined the tour, as did Brig. Gen. (res.) Yair Bareket, the chief of staff's project manager for implementing the law.
The enabling bill passed the Knesset last month with 93 votes in favor and zero opposed, allowing judges to impose the death penalty on those convicted of participating in the mass murder, sexual violence, and other atrocities of the October 7, 2023, attack. With the budget for implementation approved, construction has now begun. According to the lawmakers, the recruitment of judges is in its final stretch, and the first indictments are expected to be filed in the coming weeks.
Rothman described the facility as a venue for 'modern-day Eichmann trials,' emphasizing oversight of the process through monitoring sessions, daily coordination with relevant bodies, and site visits. Malinovsky said the process was 'beginning to move' and that the lawmakers would continue monitoring implementation to ensure efficient and swift trial preparations.
