MK Youssef Jebareen (Hadash) accused MK Zvi Sukkot (Religious Zionism) of intending to incite against the residents and municipality of Umm al-Fahm, rather than learning about the city's education system. Jebareen made the statement Sunday morning ahead of Sukkot's planned school tour in the Arab city.
The accusation from MK Youssef Jebareen (Hadash) comes as MK Zvi Sukkot (Religious Zionism), chair of the Knesset Education Committee, is preparing to tour schools in Umm al-Fahm. Jebareen, a resident of the city himself, said Sukkot's goal is 'to incite against the city's residents, against the municipality, and against Arab society in general.'
The statement follows days of tension over Sukkot's school visits in Arab communities. As The Zioneer reported on Saturday, Umm al-Fahm Mayor Samir Subhi convened an emergency meeting over the planned visit, saying the targeted school had already closed for the summer break. Last week local officials resisted an earlier visit, with the mayor calling Sukkot's tour 'absurd' during the summer holiday.
Sukkot has conducted similar inspections in East Jerusalem schools, where he warned against state funding for institutions he says promote terrorism. The current visit has not yet taken place; no date or confirmation from Sukkot's office has been published.
