Pro-Iranian channels are circulating video footage showing damage to a Saudi airport following a Houthi attack overnight Monday into Tuesday, according to security analyst Hananel Aviv. The targeted airport has not been named, and the extent of the damage remains unconfirmed.
The footage emerges after a rapid sequence of events on Monday evening. At 19:59 Jerusalem, a Houthi-affiliated a monitored channel claimed a response in Saudi Arabia had begun. Minutes later, the Houthis released a video threatening all Saudi civilian airports, then claimed responsibility for striking Abha International Airport in southwestern Saudi Arabia. Saudi authorities urged Abha residents not to film the aftermath, while a separate video showed the moment of impact near the airport. Hours later, at 23:41 Jerusalem, The Zioneer reported that Houthi forces had struck Abha International Airport in retaliation for a Saudi-led coalition strike on Sanaa International Airport. It is not yet clear whether the newly published footage documents the Abha attack or a separate incident.
The Houthi campaign against Saudi airports escalated after Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree warned on July 3 that the group would strike Saudi airports and "vital interests" if the Saudi-American blockade on Yemen continued, as The Zioneer reported at 20:16 Jerusalem on that date. The conflict has seen multiple exchanges, with both sides accusing each other of escalation.
The identity of the airport shown in the new footage remains unconfirmed, and the footage has not been independently authenticated. The full extent of damage and any casualties are also unknown.
