A group of protesters left their vehicles and descended onto Highway 4 in an attempt to block the roadway, according to reporter Eli Hirschman (N12). 01 · THE DISPATCH

A group of protesters left their vehicles and descended onto Highway 4 on Monday evening in an attempt to block traffic, according to journalist Eli Hirschman (N12). The event comes amid weeks of Haredi protest activity against the arrest of military draft evaders, with blockades on Highways 1, 4, and others during June. As The Zioneer reported on June 17, police forcibly cleared 'Jerusalem Faction' activists from Highway 4, and on June 11 a grenade was thrown at protesters during a similar blockade. Earlier on Monday evening, prior to this incident, protesters from the Jerusalem Faction had blocked Highway 4 at the Givat Shmuel interchange, defying calls from Haredi rabbinical leaders. The current incident mirrors several past confrontations in which drivers attacked protesters, and undercover police vehicles were damaged (The Zioneer, June 18). The number of protesters involved and police response are not yet reported.
