Rabbi Ohad Tirosh, head of the post-military yeshiva in Eli, sharply criticized IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir following a meeting between Zamir and hesder yeshiva heads. Tirosh accused the military of systematically failing to implement its 'shared service' policy and claimed the real manpower crisis is the exemption of high-profile secular recruits, not the ultra-Orthodox.
Rabbi Ohad Tirosh, head of the post-military yeshiva in Eli, publicly attacked IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir following Zamir's meeting with heads of hesder yeshivas, calling the chief's words entirely untrustworthy.
"I don't believe a single word he says, I've been in this arena for 20 years. The army systematically wrote the [shared service] order and did everything not to implement it," Tirosh said. He rejected claims that the current integration crisis is a tactical or manpower issue, arguing that the military is avoiding difficult decisions about high-profile secular recruits with Profile 97, instead focusing on the ultra-Orthodox.
As The Zioneer reported on June 24, Zamir had told religious-Zionist rabbis that implementation of the shared-service order would proceed 'without compromise'. Tirosh's remarks, posted on his the source, represent one of the sharpest public critiques of the chief of staff from the religious-Zionist leadership and signal continued resistance to the military's integration agenda.
