01 · THE DISPATCH

A drone struck a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz Tuesday afternoon, according to a report by Israeli journalist Ben Yaniv. The attack is the third maritime incident in the area within less than 24 hours, the report states. The development follows a series of simultaneous reports earlier in the day.

At 12:23 Jerusalem, The Zioneer reported that the UKMTO confirmed a tanker was struck and suffered structural damage, with no casualties. At the same time, a second shooting incident was reported by Amichai Stein (i24NEWS), and a separate security incident was described as "another incident." Also at 12:23, the desk reported that a Saudi-flagged oil tanker was hit again, with US media indicating a US response was expected, and that a second Saudi oil tanker had been hit within hours. These reports, all published at the same time, indicated a rapid escalation of maritime incidents. The current report by Ben Yaniv provides a new source for a third attack, though its relationship to the earlier incidents remains unclear.

The Strait of Hormuz has been a focal point of escalating tensions. As The Zioneer reported on June 27–28, a British-flagged tanker was attacked, and an unidentified projectile struck a tanker bridge. On June 28, US CENTCOM launched a new wave of strikes across Iran following a drone attack on the oil tanker MT Kiko. Earlier, on June 10, CENTCOM struck an oil tanker attempting to breach the naval blockade.

The tanker's identity, the extent of damage, and any casualties remain unconfirmed. The report is based on a single source. The two earlier incidents in the 24-hour window have not been independently identified. It is not yet clear whether the US or other actors will respond.
